Chronology of cameras Konica

The Konica Pop presented at Kina'82 is the Konica C35 EF-P from 1977 with a new casing. The model continues to be called EF-J when equipped with a date back.

To describe it, let's go back to the sources! The C35 EF-P was the basic model, fixed focus, of a series that also included the C35 EF and the C35 AF, the latter featuring innovative autofocus.
The C35 EF-P (and therefore the Pop) is equipped with a CdS cell located above the lens. The lens is the very good Hexanon f4/36 mm. The lens has a 43 mm thread for filters, optical attachments, and lens hoods, but this was probably rarely used by owners. Additionally, accessories can partially obstruct the viewfinder. The 36mm lens is a bit "wider" than the lens in the C35 series. There is the option to choose between three film sensitivities. The highest is 400 ASA, which corresponds to the availability of films on the market at that time.
The rewind crank is located under the camera. It is mounted on a hinge that easily releases the spool when the back is opened.

The camera is very simple (its design targets a very young clientele) and requires no learning curve, without sacrificing quality. The shutter speed is fixed at 1/125.

The Pop is a great success due to its simplicity. By the end of 1985, sales exceeded 1,500,000 units. Konica then released two special models in Silver and Safari Green colors.

At the Paris Salon (1st SITI) in 1987, Konica introduced a new version of its successful camera. On this "New" model, the flash has rapid recycling. The lens is protected by a lid that opens during shooting.

First version

Lens protection by a cap. Sensitivity adjustment (100 or 400 ASA/ISO without intermediate values) through a slider under the lens with the value displayed above it in a small window. Lens marked Hexanon.

Second version (aka Pop New)

Lens protection by a two-part cap. Sensitivity adjustment slider (three positions) beneath the barrel with display above. Hexanon name removed. Typography of the word "Konica" changes.

This camera comes in several colors. Some colors were reserved for exclusive uses, as was the case with the Phox. The Pop was also used for advertising purposes.__________

We find with the Pop New some colors already present with the Pop. For now, we have not found any specific colors for the New.
